    The traditionally run Osmize are privately owned houses which offer fresh hams, cheeses and wines produced by the houses themselves. The name derives from the Slovenian word for ‘eight’, the number of days they would open for in a particular season in old times.
    An osmiza is indicated by a bushy branch and a red arrow displayed at the front of the property. During the summer we never lack for osmize in Malchina!
    The Osmize offer their guests the chance to experience the deep red and powerful tones of the Terrano grape, a wine well suited to the intense yet dynamic flavours of the Carso’s meat dishes. Wherever you go on the Carso, Terrano won’t be far from your table. Whether it’s a glass with your meal or a stock from the local wine producers your after, our love for this wine will ensure that you’ll have ever opportunity to love it as we do! Getting to know Terrano can be quite a straight forward endeavour when one stays in Malchina, as leading out from our town is La Strada del Vino Terrano (quite literally ‘Terrano Road’) which, as the name suggests, takes you on a journey of taste discovery.

    Just around the corner from B&B Strupetou, one immediately encounters some enticing gastronomic propositions:
    Trattoria Boris: Here the cuisine has meat dishes at its centre, with fresh seasonal vegetables served in a complimentary role in the first courses;
    Rural Trattoria alla Mezzaluna: Here there is a a wide choice of dishes and wine from the company of farmers who run the restaurant. The menu is composed of local produce, enhanced by the herbs and spices of the Carso;
    Pizzeria agli Elfi: Here you can get a quality pizza to go, with the option in summer to eat outside on their patio area under the pine trees.

    Beyond Malchina, whether keeping to the high parts of Carso, dropping down to Sistiana and then following the coastline or hopping over the border into Slovenia, the opportunities for gastronomic satisfaction are endless, not to mention varied enough to serve all palates and all budgets. Just tell us what you fancy and we’ll be sure to know exactly the place for you.
